How we treat clients matters as much as the case
Most of our clients arrive at the worst point in their lives. After the abuse. After the detention. After a system already failed them once and they were told that was just how it works.
Someone in that position does not only need a legal strategy. They need to feel safe enough to tell the whole story, because in these cases the story is usually where the case lives.
What this looks like in an actual interview
A person who has lived through something painful experiences the legal process differently, and that changes how you have to work.
Retelling the event can reopen it. A rushed interview makes people shut down, and once someone has shut down you are not getting the detail you needed. An impatient tone confirms the fear they walked in with, which is that nobody is really on their side.
None of that is about being gentle for its own sake. It is how you get a full and accurate account, which is what a strong case is built out of. A client who feels heard tells you more, remembers more, and is still with you eight months later when the process gets tedious.
The part that is not legal work
We are known for going past the legal representation itself.
Sometimes that means explaining the same step twice without making someone feel small for asking. Sometimes it means connecting a person with help that has nothing to do with the law. The legal work is still the core of what we do. It just goes better when the person we are doing it for is steady enough to walk through it with us.
Why we bother saying this out loud
Trust and compassion get printed on a lot of law firm websites. Writing them down proves nothing.
What I can tell you is what we do with them: we do not rush the first interview, we do not talk over people, and we assume the person across the table is having the hardest month of their life, because usually they are.
At Zavala Law Group we handle each case with the care and attention it needs. If you want to work with a team that treats you like a person rather than a file number, start with a conversation.
Salomón Zavala believes the law should empower people to make informed decisions. For more, follow Legal Insight with Salomón Zavala.
