The Lineage fire in Boyle Heights was not without consequences.
The Mayor and the Governor declared a state of emergency. That activates legal obligations that the government and the companies involved must fulfill. Tell us what you experienced , it's freeWhat we know about the fire
On June 17, 2026, a cold storage warehouse at 1400 S. Los Palos St., Boyle Heights, caught fire. It was not controlled until June 25 , eight days later. During that time, residents reported headaches, difficulty breathing, and eye and throat irritation.
The same day, Cal/OSHA opened an investigation related to the warehouse’s ammonia refrigeration system. The City of LA Department of Building and Safety opened investigations for unpermitted construction and structural collapse risk.
The companies involved
| Company | Role |
|---|---|
| Lineage Inc. | Warehouse operator |
| Chill Build Los Angeles I | Property owner , purchased for $43M in 2017 |
| Altus Power, Inc. | Owner of the rooftop solar array |
| Pearce / On Computer Services | Subcontractor testing solar panels the day the fire started |
Lineage has a track record: in 2023 it was fined for Clean Air Act violations at an Iowa facility due to ammonia risks. In 2023-2024, a fire at a Lineage warehouse in Finley, Washington burned for 60 days and resulted in a class action lawsuit by residents reporting lung, sinus, and respiratory damage.
Two emergency declarations. That gives you concrete rights.
On June 20, 2026, Mayor Karen Bass and Governor Gavin Newsom issued emergency declarations, activating immediate government resources, enforcing price-gouging protections, and mandating debris removal for affected residents. These actions legally require the mobilization of aid, ban price hikes over 10% on essential goods, and compel the cleanup of hazardous materials.
Government resources must be mobilized
Price gouging is illegal
Hazardous debris must be removed

Be careful of people taking advantage of this situation
We know these months have been difficult for many Boyle Heights families. Unfortunately, some people are taking advantage of this situation to cause harm instead of helping. You should never pay upfront for a lawyer to 'get you a result.' In a legitimate contingency case, the lawyer only receives a fee if and when you receive a settlement — not before, and not as a condition to 'start' your case. Be careful what you sign. Some people approach residents with forms described as 'petitions' or 'help,' but those forms may contain clauses that waive your right to sue later. Read everything carefully, or ask someone you trust to review it with you before signing anything. Verify before you believe. If someone says they represent a government program, or that they will repair your property because 'the government will pay,' confirm it independently before giving money or personal information. If any of this has already happened to you, or you have questions about a document you signed, contact us — that consultation is free.
